After the Fair, the award winning musical which was produced Off-Broadway, London, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle etc., will be presented in a specially edited radio/concert version – complete with live sound effects and a combo – to benefit WBAI-Pacifica Radio and Mainstreet Musicals.
Based on a short story by Thomas Hardy, with book and lyrics by Stephen Cole and music by Matthew Ward, the concert, will be recorded for a future broadcast on WBAI-FM, is directed by Gabriel Barre (The Wild Party), with music directed by David Evans (Birds of Paradise, Children’s Letters To God). It features a cast of four including Anastasia Barzee (White Christmas, Merrily We Roll Along), Walter Charles (Anything Goes, La Cage Aux Folles) , Jenn Gambatese (All Shook Up, Tarzan) , and Louis Hobson (Next to Normal, Bonnie and Clyde) .
Robert Anton Wilson, the epic writer of the epic Illuminatus! Trilogy, passed away five years ago, on January 11, 2007. A writer, phenomenologist, comedian and philosopher, RAW was also an activist fighting for the rights of all sentient beings. And as such the Boing Boing, found by his protege and another grand figure in the field of activism, Ken Goffman AKA R. U. Sirius, has dedicated a week to him.
One of such posts, by Boing Boing author Mark Frauenfelder, is Bob’s exposition of Oscar Wilde’s quote (which this WBAI blogger interprets as more inclusive than originally intended by the bohemian), “Disobedience was Man’s Original Virtue.”
Quickly becoming Saturday afternoon’s downtown go-to destination, Saturday Salon features up and coming musical talent and speakers on contemporary issues.
